This strikingly mature young woman was the top all-round student for three years, and an athletic rep on students' council in addition to a wide range of accomplishments:
Laurel was a McQueen Lake leader,
a peer tutor,
a delegate to B.C. Youth Parliament,
a member of the Kamloops Youth Advisory Council,
a volunteer and coach for the Special Olympics,
an organizer of a multi-cultural week,
the stage manager for The Wizard of Oz,
an outstanding speaker at the Model UN, and
a player of field hockey, soccer, and basketball.
A core worker for the SmartRisk program, Laurel received
the Kamloops Diversity Award,
the Young Woman of Distinction Award,
the Coaches' Award for Basketball,
many other recognitions and honour roll status all the way through high school.
